RedDarwinian

Red Darwinians are first seen on the PatternBuffer level, emerging from Trunk Ports. They can do about anything that regular Darwinians can do, and seem to posess lasers and grenades at their introduction.

Attack Patterns:

Red Darwinians will attack any nearby enemy with lasers and, occasionally, grenades. Interestingly the Red Darwinians are "anarchic", having no Officer units, but on many levels they will actively launch attacks on friendly positions, without waiting to be attacked themselves.

Attack Strategies:

Like Virii, Red Darwinians are weak individually, but very dangerous en masse, particularly to other Darwinians. As with most enemies, it's a good idea to engage Red Darwinians from the maximum possible range. Dense groups of Red Darwinians are excellent targets for Grenade or Rocket attack. Battle Cannons are excellent against Red Darwinians, but watch out, if your Battle Cannon is overrun, the Red Darwinians will turn it against you.

In a battle between Red and Green Darwinians, the player should, if at all possible, use Battle Cannons, or Squads with explosive weapons, to protect friendly Darwinians; otherwise, expect a pitched battle to become a bloodbath for both sides. Upgrade your Lasers so that your Darwinians can outrange the enemy!

You will find yourself in several fights where Red Darwinians are attacking from multiple directions, often in large groups. If you need to buy yourself some time, or peace of mind, you can easily break the ranks by selecting Airstrikes as your squad weapon, and firing -in front of- the oncoming horde of Red Darwinians. They sense the danger and will break ranks in a panic, often retreating.
