Officer

From the manual:

"The Officer is used to directly control the nearby Darwinians. An Officer is created by promoting an existing Darwinian. To promote a Darwinian, draw the gesture for an Officer then Left Click on the Darwinian. Once promoted, an Officer can issue orders to the nearby Darwinians by waving specially designed signal flags."

An Officer is basically a promoted Darwinian. Officers are used for leading/directing the otherwise independant Darwinians to specific locations. Officers can absorb Darwinians to create an impervious shield around themselves. Any friendly Darwinian can be promoted to Officer status. Officers can only be created after the 'Officer' research is obtained.

Controls:

To make an Officer with Gesture controls, hold ALT and draw the Officer symbol [a capital V], and then select a DG.

  • Mouse1 - Move
  • Mouse2 - Issues 'GOTO' Command
  • Mouse2 [ON SELF] - Toggle 'FOLLOW', 'ABSORB' commands, Toggle Off

Commands

  • GOTO - With the Officer selected, right click on a spot on the ground where you want him to direct the other DGs to go [this is called issuing a GOTO command], and all DGs near him will follow his orders. Walk him around a bit towards any DGs that are standing still, and they will also heed the GOTO command.
  • FOLLOW: Right click on the selected Officer, and he will begin(cutely, I might add) to start singing a marching cadence. Unlike the FOLLOW command, Darwinians will come from far and wide to an Officer with FOLLOW on. (Note:t here are some things that take priority over FOLLOWING, such as manning buildings or attacking).

Research:

  • v1.0 - N/A
  • v2.0 - GOTO Command
  • v3.0 - FOLLOW Command
  • v4.0 - ABSORB Command

Tips:

  • Try not to make a path that leads over water, as the DGs WILL get stuck, and possibly drown! Getting stuck in barrier shields can also be deadly. The DGs have next to no pathfinding ability [by design, not a bug], so the best
  • Darwinians will only listen to a FOLLOW officer if he is on their 'island'. The ones that are further away may take longer to "hear" the officer.
