Walkthrough:

First off, Dr. Sepulveda will introduce himself to you. Take a minute to listen to him, as he does offer some helpful tips and an introduction to the story. Fly around a bit if you like, to get used to the camera controls.

Look for the activated Control Tower (C1). This is your starting point. See the little green guys wandering around the Tower? Those are the Darwinians, the little A.I. beings you'll be spending your time trying to save.

Now, some of you may have figured out that from here you could probably skip the first island entirely, but where's the fun in that? Head back to C1, create a Squad, and acclimate yourself to moving them around. Move your Squad a bit closer to the red Virii snaking along the ground, and take them out with your Lasers? and/or Grenades. Don't worry if your Squad gets 'eaten', you can just create another one next to C1 and move it back to where you were - but do try to keep some distance between you and the Virii until you get used to controlling them.

Moving on, take out four more clumps of Virii, moving on towards C2 on the other side of the island. On your way, you'll come across a floating blue Research Cube. Create an Engineer within range of your Squad. If the Engineer is close enough to the Research Cube, the Engineer will 'download' it (If it isn't close enough, just move it manually). This is some of the Doctor's research, and once your Engineer has downloaded it, your Squads will be equipped with Grenades, and you will have a new weapon in your fight against the Virii.

Move your previously created Engineer to the Control Tower (Located at C2 on the map) - it will reprogram the Control Tower, and thusly you will also gain control of the Radar Dish (R1) next to it.

Now that you've secured the island, there are two ways for you to get to the second island. The second method is faster, but it doesn't teach you how to use the Radar Dishes. If you've never played the game before, I recommend the first method.

  • Method 1: First, select the Radar Dish on the first island by left clicking on it (hit SPACE first to deselect any currently selected Squads/Engineers if you need to), and a tagtetting reticle will appear - you now have control of the Dish's movement. rotate the camera so you can see the end of the second island closest to you. See the Radar Dish there? There's a Control Tower just behind it. Move the reticle to the Dish on the second island, left click on it once, and the Dish you're controlling will move to align itself with the second Dish, and you will see a beam of light heading from your Dish to the other Dish when it is aligned properly. Now press SPACE to deselect the Dish, left click your Squad, and left click the base of the Dish [you'll see an icon when your mouse is over the right spot on the Dish's base], sending the Squad through the Dish to the other island. Once the Squad is there, you can Draw up an Engineer next to it, to take control of the Tower next to the second island's Dish.
  • Method 2: Simply fly your Engineer over the water, reprogram C3, and create a new Squad on the other side, instead of transporting your current one via the Dishes. It may be destroyed by virii though, if they wander too close - you may have to send more than one.

Either method should now have you on the second island with 3 Control Towers now under your control. Create/select your Squad, and if you haven't yet, finish clearing out the Virii in the area - your Grenades will make short work of them, just try to avoid blowing yourself up with them. Head on down the island towards T1, the big 'O' ring in the distance, taking out more virii on the way. Clean house, and then bring over/create an Engineer to reprogram C4, the last Control Tower, the one controlling the Trunk Port to Containment, to complete the level. The Doctor will surface again to talk; when he's done, you can hit ESC to leave the level, or you can wander around for a bit playing with the controls, watch the Darwinians jump for joy, fly around the level with the camera... and then when you finally get bored, hit ESC to leave the level.

Alternate Strategies:

Create an Engineer next to C1 and send it out over the water between the two islands. Fly it over the water, avoiding getting too close to the Virii, to the Research Cube. Download it, then reprogram C2. One island complete, no muss, no fuss.
