Walkthrough:

You are introduced to the game through some dialog with Dr. Sepulveda. You can skip through it faster if you're a quick reader by hitting Enter. You are also given a quick overview of the camera controls.

You are then instructed to make a Squad. Move the camera so you can see the Control Tower; the squat building with the blinking yellow light on top, next to the 'unknown location' Trunk Port (a big donut-looking stargate-type thing). Create a Squad (follow the in-game instructions, or read through the Interface section), and place it next to the Control Tower marked C1 on the map. Move your Squad (default: left mouse button) a bit closer to the red Virii snaking along the ground, and take them out with your Lasers (default: right mouse button). Don't worry if your Squad gets 'eaten', you can just whip up another one from the Control Tower and move it back to where you were - but do try to keep some distance between you and the Virii.

When that's done, you will be instructed in-game about the ways of Incubators and Engineers. Call up an Engineer as instructed (you can place it within range of your Squad, look for the circle that appears showing the range), and move it towards the Incubator - it will reprogram the Control Tower next to it. Now you can create new Squads or Engineers at this Control Tower. The Engineer should begin collecting the souls of the Virii (if they haven't floated away yet), and will bring them to the Incubator, to create new Darwinians. Call up another Engineer to help it, if you wish to speed up this process - more souls collected means more Darwinians created.

Some more text explaining the controls are shown, then you are instructed to take out the Virii and a Centipede surrounding the next Control Tower on the island. Send your Squad over, and take care of business. Remember, Grenades are a Squad's best friend.

Next, you'll be instructed on how to promote a Darwinian to an Officer. Call up the Officer program, and then click on a Darwinian - any one, doesn't matter. Make sure you have a free Unit slot open in your Task Manager?, or you won't be able to load the Officer program. If you need to free up a slot, pick an Engineer and hit Ctrl-C to delete it, then call up the Officer program again.

More in-game instructions. Take a Squad up to the refinery, the machinery in the centre of the island you're on, and eradicate the Virii. Then use an Officer to move the Darwinians up the hill, and they will take up positions around the machinery and activate it. You'll only need 10 DGs, you should have 4 or 5 times that already.

More instructions, and several buildings on the next, larger island will be highlighted for you, to show you what your next goal is.

Now, how to get to the next island. Looking at the large island from the second Incubator you reprogrammed, you should be able to see another Trunk Port with a Control Tower next to it. Create an Engineer and send it over the water to the Trunk Port on the next island - there should be no Virii around it. Be careful to keep the Engineer away from the Virii further up on the island, or they will attack and destroy it. Reprogram the Tower, and you can create a Squad here and begin taking out the Virii on this island.

Watch out for the Spiders - if your Squad stands still too long, the Spiders will pounce on them and destroy them. Also, take out the Spore Generator that is laying eggs. Grenades are your friend in both cases, although you could try out the Rocktets? or AirStrike if you like. Hey, it's a demo, try out everything. Make your way with the Squad to the center of the island, where you'll find another Incubator. Fly over your Engineer, and reprogram the Tower next to it, and then have it collect souls while you continue eradicating Virii from the island.

You should now have a bunch of Darwinians on the second island. Use Officers to direct them to the 4 different Mines?, the smaller machinery placements in the upper hills of the island. Don't worry, they can walk up very steep cliffs - but they can't walk across water, so don't set a path across water with your Officer.

More instructions, one more thing to do. Note the island highlighted during the instructions. If you go back to the island you started on, behind the Refinery will be a Trunk Port and a Radar Dish surrounded by Virii. Create a Squad at the Tower next to the first Incubator you reprogrammed, and move it around the island, and take out the Virii. Call up an Engineer, and reprogram the Tower.

Now, click on the Dish, and you will see a targeting reticle. Look for the Dish on the destination island, and click on it - your Dish should start rotating towards it, and when it is aligned properly, you will see a beam of light between the two. Send your Squad through the Dish (hit Space to deselect the Dish, click on the Squad, then click on the Dish), and they will travel the light fantastic, and appear on the other side.

You know the drill. Take out the Virii and the Spiders. Call up/fly over an Engineer, and reprogram the Tower next to the Trunk Port.

Congratulations, you're finished the demo!
