Centipede

From the manual:

"An early mutation of the basic Virii pattern caused them to expand into three dimensions. These Centipedes are stronger than the Virii they mutated from, but are also more concerned with their own survival. They will flee from an attacker if they take damage. Unfortunately as each part of their body is destroyed, they will simply break up into smaller and smaller components until fully wiped out. Centipedes are capable of consuming any Souls they find lying around and regrowing parts of their body."

Appearance:

Centipedes are look like large snakes made up of smaller segments that can act independantly of the main body if disengaged as a result of the main body taking damage. Centipedes may vary in size and length, which is determined by the number of segments they contain. Centipedes can regenerate themselves to full size (or larger) by absorbing nearby souls left on the landscape.

Manouverability:

Centipedes meander around within a ranged area, and are restricted to movement within that area. Centipedes are not usually densely packed together. Centipedes can and will leave the ranged area in pursuit of a player unit. Centipedes are rather quick compared to most other enemies and units. Centipedes can pass through laser fences? unhindered (though it has been observed that they may occasionally take damage from them. This could be a game bug). They can travel across water, as though they are a flying enemy.

Attack Patterns:

Centipedes will continue to fly around in apparently random fashion when they detect a player unit nearby, but will also make strike passes at it from. These attacks can come from any angle. Centipedes are not quite as agressive as Virii, but can take out an entire Squad if they come at it at the right angle.

Attack Strategies:

Dealing with one Centipede is easy - stand your Squad in one spot, and fire lasers at it as it circles around you. Be careful with multiple Centipedes - don't focus too hard on the one in front of you, or another may make a strike pass at you from behind and take out your Squad. Take out large Centipedes/groups quickly with Grenades, Air Strikes, or Rockets. Battle Cannons are also effective, as are well-managed groups of v3.0 or higher Darwinians.
